guinea keet feed (Feed & Nutrition)

by betherfly, Tuesday, March 07, 2017, 09:47 (23 days ago)

Hello! I am new to raising guineas. We have chicks in with a guinea. Is it ok to give it chick starter food? I know they need more protein. They are in the same box as the chicks. Is there a way to give them different food with higher protein, or continue with the chick starter?

Welcome, betherfly!

And welcome to the wonderful world of guineas! Guinea keet feed is usually higher in protein than what is normally fed to chicken chicks, but keets can do well on a good quality chick starter feed, especially if they are kept in a small brooder box. I would look for the highest protein content in a chick starter that I could find. It really isn't practical to try to feed something different to young birds that are being kept together.

Best of luck with your little ones!

I would get turkey/gamebird starter crumbles and slowly transition over from the chick starter by mixing it together. It won't be long before the keets are really active and will need the higher protein. The chicks will pee off the excess protein. Why not be safe than sorry.

Lol! I've often thought that too Barbara!

How many guineas do you have, betherfly?

I was under the impression that there was only one.
