Guinea Fowl Conference 2007 Update

February 16, 2007 at 04:07 PM

Peter Brown, "The Chicken Doctor," has just been added as a presenter at our conference in Warrenton, VA, next month. Peter Brown has a degree in poultry science, and he has made it his life's work to study poultry health. He is known for his ability to diagnose problems and suggest appropriate treatments, both traditional and natural. In addition, he is at work on a project to document avian embryology, and he is bringing that slide show for us to view.

For those of you who haven't yet registered for the conference, you can do so up until the last minute; but you must make your hotel reservations before March 1 to get the discounted room rate.

Airfares have gone down!

January 8, 2007 at 02:43 PM

If you're thinking about flying to this year's Guinea Fowl Conference in Virginia, several carriers have dropped their prices in recent months. Dulles is the closest airport (about 30 minutes from Warrenton, VA, site of this year's Conference). Reagan Airport in Washington DC is also an easy drive, and BWI and Richmond are both reasonable alternatives. Check Orbitz and Travelocity for today's fares; Jet Blue and Southwest also serve some of those airports.

Helmeted Guinea Fowl Color Chart

Thanks to our treasurer, we have added a Color Chart, which is accessible from the menu on the left. You'll find descriptions of all of the 21 color varieties of standard helmeted guinea fowl that are currently available. You'll also find tips and photos to help you identify the color of your keets.

We plan to update the chart with additional pictures as they are made available to us. In the meantime, if anyone has a photo of an adult or a keet that is not yet presented in the chart, you may email it to Brenda or send it to the address on our "Contact Us" page. We would be happy to consider your photo(s) for inclusion in the Color Chart.

We've been busy!

September 15, 2006 at 03:27 PM

We've been working hard, and there's a lot going on behind the scenes as material is being prepared for presentation on this site.

We now have a Links page where you'll find connections to various sites around the world with information about guinea fowl and their care. We hope the new GFIA Links page will be a helpful guide as you travel around the Internet.

We will soon be adding several more articles written by our members. Also, we are planning to present information we learned at the First Guinea Fowl International Association Conference that was held in March 2006 in College Station, Texas, USA.

We really appreciate all of the support we have received as we work to make this site user-friendly and informative.
